What Students are Saying

Miss Amie is a rare breed of teacher that is able to positively bring out the best in her students. Her love of music is contagious and she both inspires and guides her students to reach higher and higher levels of excellence. She never shames her students or makes them feel bad if they didn’t practice. Instead she is warm and encouraging; my children have a natural desire to please her and they blossom in her praise and support.

Amie is a wonderful teacher. She takes great interest in her students and gets to know them on a personal level. She makes lessons fun and interesting, while at the same time establishing clear expectations.

We enjoy how positive you are with the girls and how you make the lessons fun and enjoyable. Your joy of playing the piano shines through here.
— Subrat B.
Your combination of warmth, candor, and teaching to the child. All of this is evident in the recitals - it’s a happy atmosphere, the kids willingly participate, and families are supportive. It’s wonderful that experience levels are all mixed together, and so important for the little ones see older kids play.
— Kim C.
Amie is not only kind, caring and patient, she is able to read the child and adapt the lesson to fit their personality.

“We love the joy you bring into our home.” - Anne T.

I love what you’re doing by giving a complete music education teaching about genres of music and composers. We love the joy you bring into our home. We love that you’re kind when we have bad weeks with less practice and we love that you’re letting N play some songs he is excited about. We love your flexibility.
— Anne T.
I like Amie as a piano teacher because she is really fun and always brings great energy to the lessons. I always feel like I’ve made progress at the end of our lessons, and I always enjoy myself too! I would recommend Amie as a piano teacher to anyone who wants an amazing piano lesson!
— McKinley C-K.
Amie’s philosophy is to promote a love of music in her students. Yes, they have homework and are expected to practice, but Amie is very flexible in her approach and customizes it for each student depending on their personality and where they are in their progress.

Amie was referred to our family to teach the next level of piano to our youngest son, J, who had given up piano years earlier, mainly due to a dissatisfaction with his prior teacher. Amie welcomed him and he thrived almost immediately, reaching levels unexpected, even given his good ear and the history of piano players in the family. Amie was just the right fit for both motivating, yet challenging him. He ultimately achieved a very fine repertoire of Ragtime songs, playing them rather expertly, and Amie was a huge part to his quick success.

Miss Amie began to work with my boys when they were just five years old. My boys always come out of lessons feeling proud and more capable than when they arrived.

“She is an incredible teacher and just a wonderful person!” - Nancy S.

My daughters learned so much from Amie! They will continue to play piano all their lives because of her! She is an incredible teacher and just a wonderful person!
— Nancy S.
We have been with Amie since M (5th grade) was in 1st grade. The kids all love her – she is young and fun. Not overwhelming with the kids and very willing to work with parents wanting more or less for their kids. Traditionally she has done a nice (but not obnoxious!) recital the first weekend of December. This has been a highlight for our kids – they get to perform, but don’t feel crazy pressure. We have been thrilled with Amie and have recommended her to many!

Miss Amie is an amazing teacher. I’ve learned so much over the course of three years, all thanks to her. Even when I had first started piano, I loved it after a few weeks, mostly because my teacher, Miss Amie, is so incredible! I love to practice piano because piano has become astoundingly fun. It helps bring fun and joy into our house. She teaches me piano but isn’t strict or mean, and helps you understand so much better. She is endlessly patient, kind and helpful. She teaches both kids and grown-ups which is awesome because I can take piano lessons with her forever!!! Miss Amie is, and will be forever, my favorite music teacher. I love her so much and she is such a great piano teacher.
— M.Q. (age 11)
Amie has been a great teacher for our three girls. They enjoy going to weekly music lessons because Amie makes the experience inviting and relaxed.

“She is a consummate professional.” - Tracy M.

Amie LaPorte has served as a piano teacher to my two children for over five years. And while we may technically “employ” her, Amie does not really work for us – she works with us. She is more than our piano teacher; she is part of our family. And the reason I write with us is because Amie brings so much love to her work. Of course she knows how to play and teach the piano very well, but it is made all the better because of her love, her innate love. It is a love for music, for us, for all of her families and students that make her so beloved by her clients. With many children, music lessons can be seen as a chore forced upon them by their parents. Lessons are dreaded and practices forced marches. But with Amie as their instructor, my children view their lessons not as a chore but as a special treat with a special person. They ask for lessons and have never complained about “having” to take piano. Time with Amie is a time where they learn about music but do so in an environment of fun, passion, and love. While Amie requires the typical scale work and rudiments that one would expect, she also allows for freedom of choice in the students’ selection of music they wish to play. This has been especially wonderful for my daughter who often remarks that she can’t wait to tell Miss Amie about a new song that she wants to learn. Amie works incredibly well with her families – parents and students alike. There is not a parent who does not state without hesitation their affection for and complete pleasure they take in Amie’s instruction with their children. Her attitude is unfailingly warm, positive, humorous and welcoming. Amie is a smiling joy and has a wonderful ability to make everyone around her feel at ease and accepted. This does not mean that she is lax and easy. She runs a very disciplined business running a tight schedule every week, documenting lessons, accommodating changing scheduling requirements, and holding bi-annual recitals. She is a consummate professional.
